Helpful Tips for Normal Living

We hope that you will find some of the tips helpful in coping with life after a stroke. Some people have different problems so chose the ones that help.

- Eating
- Eating out, difficult to cut up meat , ask if the chef will cut it up for you.
- Eating, use the side of the fork to cut things
- Eating, peas trap against something large like a potato to pick up
- Eating, cereal/ Soup tilt the bowl on a knife or a pencil etc.
- Eating, Use a pair of scissors to cut things like sausages or bacon
- Dressing
- Tying shoelaces, there is a way (click here)
- Cold hands in winter, can't put gloves on try sheepskin mittens.
- Out and About
- Unstable walking, try using a hiking pole you can adjust the height to suit.
- Carry things, use a shoulder bag (thats men as well).
- Shoes, trainers give support and cushioning for the feet and curve up at the front to help with drop foot.
